Sun Cedar founder Shine Adams builds guitars from cedar wood in his home shop. He decided to play with real cedar fragrance and cut out an ornament from some scrap cedar he had on-hand. Pleased with the result, he realized that others might find such aromatic ornaments attractive in their own spaces. Thus was born Sun Cedar's first product- Cedar trees.
Sun Cedar does not buy lumber by the foot--our Cedar trees are made from end cuts that would otherwise be disposed of as mulch or landfill waste. The small bits of wood trimmed away during the creation of each tree are reduced to shavings for use in Sun Cedar's aromatic sachets, resulting in a zero-waste production process. The progressive business model practiced by Sun Cedar reflects the company’s core values.
Sun Cedar makes every effort to obtain raw materials and other supplies from local vendors, with an eye toward supporting Lawrence’s business community to the greatest degree possible. The company’s wood is obtained from a local independent lumber supplier, Mark Frieden Hardwoods.
